What is coaching?
Coaching is focused, high-energy, interactions intended to create positive change in key aspects of someone's life. Coaching is used to create optimal outcomes in a variety of areas such as, but not limited to: professional development, health and well-being, personal relationships, communication styles and life/work balance. Coaching is not therapy or advice giving. It differs in that the focus is entirely on personal projects, goals and changes that clients seek for themselves. The coaching process is focused on the development, honing and nurturing of their own skills, talents and resources. It entails keen assessment of current conditions within one's life that are impacting the desired changes a client seeks. Assessment, strategic planning and analysis of solutions to these conditions facilitates the client's achievement of sought-after dreams and goals. Coaching is strength-based, with a client's talents and abilities the focus of the work. Coaching is about strategizing a path toward change that addresses obstacles and works to enhance a clients gifts, so that goals can be realized. It is a dynamic process between coach and client to look at belief systems, problem solving, idea development and language that is impacting the client's current situation and desired goal. Fundamentally, all good coaching leads to new perspectives and techniques a client will continue to use to make dynamic and meaningful changes, througout the client's life.
Who seeks coaching?
Clients come from all backgrounds and walks of life. The only element essential to someone seeking a coach is that he or she is seeking personal change and enhancement of life goals, conditions and dreams. Often there are clear objectives at the outset, such as wanting a promotion, improving a relationship or losing weight. Other times an individual seeks coaching because he or she has a vague sense of dissatisfaction or stagnation in his or her life. In such instances, the goal may be a redesigning of personal values and perspectives, with an intention of changing one's vision of his or her life's path. Individuals may seek coaching for stress reduction, more holistic or organic living and deeper balance and peace in their life. There are also those with deep visions of a dream or project they wish to bring to fruition who seek guidance on how to activate this dream now. These are but a few of the reasons individuals seek somone to assist them in creating positive change in their life.
